Junior M&A Advisory Associate - JD required Job at Larson Maddox, New York, NY

  • Larson Maddox
  • New York, NY

Job Description

A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced M&A attorney interested in leveraging their legal expertise in a more commercial, strategic, and transaction-oriented capacity.

This is a highly unique opportunity for a lawyer who has spent their career advising on mergers & acquisitions and is now interested in taking a broader seat at the table. Rather than solely advising on transactions from a legal perspective, this role offers the opportunity to participate directly in evaluating, structuring, and executing strategic investments, acquisitions, divestitures, and business initiatives across a global platform.

Ideal for attorneys who enjoy the business side of transactions and want greater exposure to corporate strategy, investment decision-making, and senior executive stakeholders, this position represents a rare bridge between legal advisory work and investment banking-style strategic execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior business leaders, corporate development teams, investment bankers, and executive management on strategic transactions and growth initiatives.
  • Evaluate acquisition opportunities, minority investments, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and other complex corporate transactions.
  • Conduct commercial, financial, and strategic analysis to support investment and M&A decision-making.
  • Lead transaction execution workstreams from initial diligence through negotiation, approval, signing, and integration planning.
  • Assess transaction structures, risks, synergies, valuation considerations, and business impacts.
  • Prepare presentations and recommendations for senior executives and key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with legal, finance, corporate development, and business teams to drive successful outcomes across strategic initiatives.

Ideal Background

  • JD from a top law school and licensed attorney in good standing.
  • 2+ years of M&A experience gained at a leading law firm and/or financial institution.
  • Strong experience negotiating and advising on public and private company acquisitions, investments, joint ventures, and strategic transactions.
  • Exceptional commercial judgment and genuine interest in the business rationale behind transactions.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues beyond purely legal considerations.
  • Desire to move closer to strategic decision-making, investment evaluation, and transaction execution.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to interact with senior management and business leadership.

Why This Opportunity?

  • Rare opportunity to transition from a traditional legal career path into a more commercial, investment-oriented role.
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Broader influence over transaction outcomes beyond legal risk management.
  • Opportunity to leverage M&A expertise while developing corporate development, strategic finance, and investment banking-related skillsets.
  • Highly visible position with significant growth potential.
  • Hybrid work environment with competitive compensation and bonus structure.

Who Should Apply?

This role is particularly attractive to M&A associates, counsel, or in-house attorneys who have found themselves increasingly drawn to the commercial and strategic aspects of transactions. If you've ever wanted to move beyond advising deals and into helping shape them, this opportunity offers a unique path to do exactly that while still leveraging the transaction experience you've spent years building.
